On Oct. 5, the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta (CFNWAB) announced a second round of federal funding to be dispersed.

Since May 19, the CFNWAB was able to award $720,590 in grants to a number of charities in the Northwestern Alberta region to address various needs such as food security, communication upgrades, connection with local citizens, and mental health, to name a few.

The grants were funded through the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF), funded by the Government of Canada.

The Emergency Community Support Fund was initially announced on Apr. 21 by the Prime Minister of Canada. It is part of a broad series of emergency response measures by the Government of Canada. A first round of funding was disbursed through the community foundation network across Canada in June and July. Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta awarded $720,590 to 30 of organizations in the area.

Round two of this funding has been issued, through Community Foundation of Canada. The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta is honored to receive another allocation of $229,110 to be disbursed across northwestern Alberta.

CEO Laura LaValley says this fund has been very impactful to our region.

“We have been able to fund approximately 30 organizations across our region with some very valuable projects! It has been remarkable to see how these organizations have remained dedicated to serving vulnerable populations. They have found new ways to support the people they serve, with the help of this funding.”

She adds, “For over six months, they have been working tirelessly to support those who need it most but the reality is, they’re struggling with increased demand at the same time as revenues have decreased. This fund supports them as they carry on their good work in our region.”

The CFNWAB is accepting applications for funding from qualified donees. The deadline to submit an application is Oct. 30. Grants can be used for a variety of purposes, including to cover staffing or resource needs, purchase assistance and more.

Charities and community organizations are invited to visit the foundation website for eligibility and application details.
