On Saturday May 2 and Sunday May 3 the Underwater Recovery Team (URT) conducted an extensive search for 33-year-old Dayna Lee-Ann Cheyenne West in the Muskwa River while Fort Nelson Search and Rescue (SAR) searched by boat along the shoreline. Sadly, Dayna was not located.

Dayna went missing on Wednesday Apr. 22. Northern Rockies RCMP had received numerous calls from people who were parked along the shore of the Muskwa River when water broke through the ice dams, flooded the shore, preventing the people from leaving.

Two other individuals were parked further up the shore in their car when the river level rose and they were being carried away by the water. Both people were able to get out of the vehicle however only one person successfully made it to shore. The other was Dayna and she remained missing.

Searches were conducted on April 23 and 25. They had to suspend the search because the area was too hazardous to access.

Since Sunday, RCMP have suspended the search again.

Future searches will be planned in consultation with the Fort Nelson SAR Team as weather permits.
