Next week, Ronald McDonald House Alberta is hosting a virtual run called Hustle for the House in support of their houses in the province.

People can register as an individual or a team, and there’s prizes to be won for the highest fundraiser. Participants pick the distance they want to walk or run, and they’ll assess if you’ve met your goal.

It’s a great opportunity to get out, have fun, and support the charity and our local peace region families.

Proceeds from the event will go to all the Alberta houses – Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, and the new location in Medicine Hat. For our local area, there will also be a few events in the fall, including a charity golf classic and shooting event in September, and the Once Upon a Time Ball in October.

Their fundraising goal for the year is $10 million which will allow them to maintain their programs and services. It cost about $285 per night to run a room in one of the houses. There is a minimum of $10 to $12 a night to use them, but if families can’t afford that, then it’s free.

The Ronald McDonald Houses provide a way to keep families together and create a support system for sick kids. Children need their parents and siblings and it also provides a connection with other families going through the same thing. Staying at the house also includes food, showers and laundry.
