Closures of sections of Range Road 53 at Township Road 714 are set to start Tuesday, May 24 for construction of a traffic circle near Five Mile Hall.

The project involves removal of the existing intersection and construction of a traffic circle at the intersection of Range Road 53 at Township Road 714. The work will take place in two phases and each phase is expected to take about three weeks, weather dependent.

In phase one starting May 24, Range Road 53 will close from Township Road 714 to Township Road 712, remaining open to local traffic only. Traffic can detour using Range Road 53A and Range Road 54 to the west and Range Road 52 to the east.

In phase two, Range Road 53 will close from Township Road 714 to Highway 670, remaining open to local traffic only. Traffic can detour using Range Road 54 to the west and Range Road 52 to the east.

The anticipated completion date of both project phases is mid-July, weather dependent.

Traffic along Township Road 714 will be limited to one lane with alternating travel controlled by a traffic signal. Construction equipment and crews will be on site.

The highlighted areas on the maps below indicate where construction will take place and the recommended detours for both project phases.

Traffic may experience delays over the duration of the project. Speed will be reduced in the construction zones. As well, traffic may  temporarily detoured or have rough non-gravel driving surfaces. Motorists are advised to obey all signs, flag persons, exercise extreme caution when travelling through the site and near crews and equipment and allow extra time for travel.

The County is investing a total of $53 million in new capital road and bridge projects this year. Planned construction includes 53 km of road surfacing including the paving of gravel roads, surfaced road overlays, and re-construction.
