On Saturday, March 25, Rising Above hosted their "Hope Lives" fundraising banquet at the Tara Centre. 750 people attended the event with $295,168.50 raised for the local non-profit organization, a jump of $75,000 compared to last year’s $220,000.

Mel Sigglekow, Executive Director of Rising Above, shared his enthusiasm with Reach FM saying the momentum of the people and the response during the evening, along with seeing 750 people supporting the work that they do, spoke to his heart.

“The Peace Country community has supported us beyond our expectations.”

Funds will be used for day-to-day operations of the ministry. There will also be some seed money set aside for a new secure women’s residence in Grande Prairie and to expand the number of beds available in the men’s residence.

Rising Above is committed to helping people break cycles of defeat by providing safe and comfortable living quarters with separate housing for men and women, encouraging responsibility for personal space, and sharing in maintaining common areas. They also aid participants in finding part-time employment and provide courses in life skills and personal development. Spiritual counselling is also made available to participants.
