On Wednesday, July 26, at approximately, 1:08 a.m., The Grande Prairie RCMP received a report a report of a break and enter in progress at The Silvercrest Lodge.

Witnesses reported seeing two males force their way into the room with an axe. When police arrived all of the occupants were gone.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the tenants of the room had been abducted.

Police located the victim and later arrested two males.

Joshua Hamm (30) a resident of Maple Ridge, B.C. has been charged with:

-Kidnapping X2
-Robbery X3
-Assault with a weapon
-Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose X2
-Possession of controlled substance
-Mischief under $5000
-Uttering threats X3
-Assault on a peace officer
-Disarming a peace officer
-Possession of a prohibited weapon
-Assault causing bodily harm to a peace officer
-Resisting arrest

Karl Hildebrandt (29) a resident of Prince George, B.C. has been charged with:

-Kidnapping X2
-Robbery X3
-Assault with a weapon
-Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
-Possession of controlled substance
-Mischief under $5000
-Uttering threats X3

Following a judicial release hearing, Hamm was remanded into custody and Hildebrandt was held in custody to appear at the Grande Prairie Provincial Courthouse, August 14, 2023.
