Beverly Lambert, known as “Métis Bev”, will offer full-day cultural workshops at nine schools during the upcoming PWPSD Indigenous Speakers Series on April 29 - May 2 and May 10 - 16, 2019

Preservation of Métis culture will be the focus of full-day workshops led by Beverly Lambert, known as “Métis Bev”, during her visits to nine Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) schools on April 29 - May 2 and May 10 - 16. Students will learn about Métis history and jigging, blended with messages about anti-bullying, cultural awareness and pride, self-esteem, and healthy living.

“I am determined to instill pride in the next generation so they can be proud of who they are for the rest of their lives,” Ms. Lambert says on her website. “When I leave a community, it is my hope that the children will have that strong root with a healthy, happy attitude to move forward on their own.”

Her school presentation options include Métis Aerobics; a Métis Showcase with performances by students; Métis Bev Show featuring a Métis story, jigging, motivational speech and a puppet show; and a Kitchen Party option where students dress in regalia, learn traditional dancing and have a dance party.

Brigitte Benning, Indigenous Educator at PWPSD and organizer of the speakers’ series, speaks highly of Ms. Lambert’s presentations.

“Our schools will be alive with culture and energy. Ms. Lambert seamlessly teaches about Métis culture and healthy living, all the while getting a room full of kids and adults jigging to fiddle music. This segment of the Indigenous Speaker Series will instill pride and excitement in our younger students. After a day with Ms. Lambert, they will not only add a few more dance steps to their pocket, but will also gain increased confidence and skills that they can carry with them forever.”
