Recreational users of the Evergreen Ridge Recreation Area and nearby Crown land are advised to use caution during the ongoing work to construct the Southeast Grande Prairie Firebreak.

While there is no construction within the Evergreen Ridge Recreation Area, it is being used as an access point for heavy equipment. People heading east to access Crown land may encounter construction.

“The public may wish to consider using other trails in the region while the firebreak is being constructed, and to avoid any active construction areas where heavy equipment is being operated,” says Christine Rawlins, Parks and Recreation Manager. “The County of Grande Prairie appreciates the public’s cooperation during the ongoing response to the Dunes West wildfire.”

Due to the presence of heavy equipment, parking in the Recreation Area may be reduced for the next 14 days or longer. If necessary, single lane parking is available along the west side of Range Road 55 only, to prioritize emergency vehicle access to homes in the area.

Pets must remain on leash while in the Recreation Area. Leashing is also recommended on Crown land where heavy equipment is being operated.

The public is also advised to watch for surveyors who have been given special permission to operate Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) to facilitate construction of the firebreak.
