During Monday's provincial COVID-19 update, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported five new deaths from COVID-19 in the province, bringing the total up to eight.

The new recorded fatalities include a female in her 70's and a male in his 80's, both of which lived in long care facilities.

A female in her 50's from the Calgary zone, a male in his 80's in the Edmonton zone, and a male in his 30's from High Prairie in the North zone comprised the other three.

29 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 690.

Though the new confirmed cases over the last few days have been lower than previous days, Dr. Hinshaw attributed the drop to a decrease in daily testing, due to the fact that they are no longer testing returning travelers, and have been encountering 'challenges' with lab testing supplies.

94 recoveries have been confirmed.

On Sunday, Dr. Hinshaw connected with her counterparts across the country to discuss rules surrounding the Federal Quarantine Act.

She says the discussion led to a consensus for a country wide recommendation that those under quarantine due to having re-entered the country or being in contact with a confirmed case must remain on their property, and are now only permitted to go outdoors into their yard, deck or balcony.

"Under no circumstances should you leave your property during the 14 days of self isolation. This means that if you are under mandatory self isolation, you can no longer go for walks in your neighborhood or at the park until your self isolation period ends. Do not have visitors over, do not go to public areas and spaces or community settings. Arrange to have someone pick up essentials like groceries or medication for you."

Those living in apartment buildings are not permitted to use elevators or stairwells.

Dr. Hinshaw says this applies to anyone in mandatory isolation regardless if they feel well.
