The Province of Alberta is taking a staged approach to the reopening of the economy, being cautious in an effort to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases. But, the next stage could be getting moved up.

During the COVID update on Wednesday, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health said stage two of the relaunch isn’t expected to go ahead until June 19, at the earliest. However, she added that discussions are on-going as to whether that date can be moved forward.

nd to renew the state of public health emergent and will then proceed to release the panel report,” said Kenney.

Despite exactly when the next phase of the relaunch starts or whether there is a state of public health emergency in pace or not, Doctor Deena Hinshaw said it is up to Albertans to do what they can to prevent the spread of the virus.

“While this is often compared to Influenza, our current COVID-19 death toll of 142 in Alberta is one-and-a-half times higher than the highest annual Influenza death number in the last five years,” said Dr. Hinshaw.
