Premier Jason Kenney was in no mood to mince words when it came to the U.S. government telling 3M not to supply surgical masks to Canada.

Kenney says it was short sighted and disappointing.

"It reminds me of what happened in 1939 and 1940 when Canada was a part of the fight against global fascism, the United States sat out the first two or three years and actually, initially refused to even provide supplies to Canada and the United Kingdom which was leading the fight at the time," he says.

Kenney says he wants President Trump to remember Canada's solidarity with the U.S. after 911 and in the global fight against terrorism.

"As a Canadian I am insulted by the decision announced today to block the export of critically needed medical equipment that we need to fight the pandemic in this country," he says. "I think it's short sighted because the United States ultimately is net importer of this type of equipment but it also underscores why we must produce our own critical equipment here at home because apparently we can't even count on closest friend and ally to be a supplier."

The Premier says it's part of the reason for the Bits and Pieces program he's established asking for all companies, big and small, and individuals to do their part for the cause.
