On Nov. 2, B.C. reported a total of 1,120 new cases of COVID-19 and 537 recoveries. There are currently 2,945 active cases and 12,207 recoveries.

Ten of the weekend cases were reported in the Northern Health region. In the region, 34 cases are active, 385 people have recovered and no one is hospitalized.

Provincially right now, 90 people are hospitalized with the virus, with 19 of these in intensive care. Six more people died, for a total of 269.

A precautionary outbreak has been put in place at the Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek. There’s been one confirmed case in a staff member who worked during their potential infectious period. So far, there’s no evidence of transmission of the virus among staff or residence and the risk is considered low.

As a precaution, NH Medical Health Officers have declared a facility outbreak, based on the criteria for declaring an outbreak in long-term care settings.

According to Northern Health, they’ve implemented enhanced precautions at the Manor and are communicating with staff, residents and families. They’re working on figuring out who may have been exposed.

The measures in place are:

  • Enhanced cleaning and infection control
  • Staff and resident movement in the facility has been restricted
  • Staffing levels will be maintained to provide resident care
  • Temporary suspension of social visits (essential visits are not impacted, and can continue)

The outbreak declaration will be in place until Nov. 8 for now, 14 days after any potential exposure with the confirmed case, which was Oct. 25. If there is still no transmission by then, it will be declared over, and social visits will be resumed.
