The weekly cattle marketing report for the prairies shows feeder steer and heifer prices were mixed last week.

In Manitoba, feeder steer prices were mainly up over last week with prices ranging from $258.50 per cwt for the 901+, up to $417.14 per cwt for the 401 to 500 pound weights.

The biggest increase for the week was the 501 to 600 pound weight category which was up $14.50 per cwt for an average price of $355.36 per cwt.

Feeder heifer prices ranged from $336.39 per cwt for the 401-500 pound category to a low of $224.50 per cwt for the 901plus weights.

The biggest drop was for the 901+ weights which were down $14.88 per cwt for an average price of $224.50, the largest increase was in the 501 to 600 pound weight category which was up $13.89 per cwt for an average price of  $319.68 per cwt.

D1-D2 cows were down $4.93 per cwt to $113.64 per cwt, D3's were down $5.88 per cwt for an average price of $103.50 per cwt, slaughter bulls dropped $1.64 per cwt to $144.21 per cwt.

The number of animals moving through Saskatchewan auction marts hit 17,316 down from the 27,940 marketed the previous week.

Saskatchewan feeder steer prices ranged from  $472.75 per cwt for the 300-400 pound weights, down to $300.50 per cwt for the 800-900 pound category.

Prices improved the most in the 400-500 pound steers up $4.32 per cwt to average at $437.67 per cwt, the 800-900 pound weight category had the largest price decline $4.30 per cwt from the previous week, while a price was not established in the heavier 900+ pound steer category.

Feeder heifer prices dropped off with prices ranging from $376 per cwt for the 300-400 pound category to $267.83 per cwt for the 800+ weights.

The biggest gains came in the 700-800 pound weight category, with prices improving on average $3.53 per cwt from the previous week, the biggest price decline was $4.92 per cwt for the lightest heifers, those weighing between 300-400 pounds.

Alberta's report shows there was no price established last week for fed steers, so prices remain the same as last week with an average price of $228.19 per cwt.

D2 cows were unchanged from the previous week coming in at  $122.29 per cwt, D3 slaughter cows were down $3.41 per cwt for an average of $106.79 per cwt.

The rail price remained unchanged from the previous week at $245 to $255 per cwt.
