Areas of the Peace Country including Grande Prairie and Fort St. John can expect local smoke to continue for the next couple days.

Wildfire smoke is causing poor air quality and reducing the visibility at times. Very high AQHI values are being reported through much of northern Alberta and the mountain parks, and are expected to remain high through mid week.

Poor air quality due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably hour by hour.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

People with lung diseases, such as asthma and COPD, can be particularly sensitive to air pollution. They will generally experience more serious health effects at lower levels.

To reduce your exposure to wildfire smoke, try to limit your time outdoors, avoid outdoor activities such as running, and keep your windows closed.
