The B.C. RCMP's North District Major Crime Unit (NDMCU) continues to investigate the suspicious death of Artchie Gairdner.

On April 24, the Northern Rockies RCMP detachment responded to report of a male who was located deceased in a residence in Fort Nelson.

The responding police officers found several things suspicious which led them to call NDMCU to conduct further investigation. The autopsy confirmed the identity of the deceased as 69-year-old Artchie Gairdner and that he died because of a homicide.

This investigation remains active as investigators collect evidence to piece together Mr. Gairdner's movements and identify those responsible for his death. The cause of death will not be released as investigators must strike a balance between protecting key details of the investigation and releasing information. This is done to protect the integrity of the investigation to ensure that this matter can be brought before the courts with the necessary evidence for a successful prosecution.

Investigators have been in regular contact with Mr. Gardiner's family to provide them with support, updates and explain the investigative process that is being undertaken. Investigators are interested in hearing from anyone who may have information regarding this tragic event, and they are encouraged to call the Northern Rockies RCMP detachment
