A CN Railway train derailed late Tuesday evening near the Town of Emo, ON, at Hwy. 602, blocking one crossing.

The site was secured and Hwy. 602 has been closed to traffic by local authorities.

The train had 31 railcars carrying various commodities, and it has been confirmed they derailed in various positions, of which 26 are tank cars. Of the 26 tank cars, there are two tank cars confirmed to be leaking crude oil. Preliminary reports are that there may be a possible third tank car leaking and that no product has entered a waterway.

Persons who need to travel in this area will need to take alternate routes and use Highway 613 to access those areas.

Local officials have confirmed that the residents living near the site who were evacuated as a precaution have since returned to their homes.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
