Peace Wapiti Public School District (PWPSD) has announced two more COVID-19 cases at Peace Wapiti Academy (PWA).

Both cases were last in school on Friday, April 23, and close contacts will need to isolate until Thursday, May 6 (close contact on April 21); Friday, May 7 (close contact on April 22); or Saturday, May 8 (close contact on April 23).

With the number of students and staff needed to isolate, Alberta Education has authorized a temporary shift to at-home remote learning for Grades 9-12 students for the remainder of this week. Right now, the plan is to resume in-person learning on Monday, May 3. If this changes, families will receive the information.

Sexsmith Secondary School also has some grades beginning to learn from home. Grade 7 students begin at home learning today, and at home learning for Grade 8’s has been extended. They should all return to school on Monday, May 10. Grades 9 to 12 continue in person.

PWPSD is also reporting that Spirit River Regional Academy has moved to outbreak status, meaning they have five or more cases where the virus could have been transmitted in school.

Other PWPSD schools listed on outbreak: Clairmont Community School, Sexsmith Secondary School, Hythe Regional School and Peace Wapiti Academy.

Robert W. Zahara Public School and Harry Balfour School are on alert, with two to four cases.
