In the afternoon of Sep. 8, 2021, Peace Regional RCMP received reports of break and enters to two homes in the area of 94 street and 89 avenue in Peace River.  Upon returning to their residences, home owners discovered that their homes had been entered, items had been stolen and that significant disturbances had been caused inside.  One home owner located two individuals in their home and confronted them, before the suspects fled the area.  Members of the Peace Regional RCMP detachment and the Peace River Forensic Identification Section responded and conducted an investigation, that with the assistance of the public, led to the identification of the individuals involved.

As a result of the investigation, two youths, aged 14 and 15 from Peace River, have each been charged with the following offences:

·         Breaking and entering a dwelling house and committing mischief (2 counts)

·         Theft under $5000 (2 counts)

Both youths have been conditionally released from custody to appear in Peace River Provincial Youth Court on Oct. 18, 2021, in relation to these matters.  The names of the youths will not be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Peace Regional RCMP would like to remind the public to take steps to prevent break-ins and thefts.  Lock your doors and secure your windows when you’re away from your home and consider alarm monitoring solutions that will notify you of unexpected activity.  If you’re going to be away, ask your neighbours to check on your property.  If you see something suspicious, report it to police.
