On Jan. 12, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Peace Regional RCMP were dispatched to a report of an assault that had occurred in the village of Nampa.  Investigation revealed that two suspects had assaulted a local resident with a weapon, resulting in serious, non-life threatening injuries.  The suspects were reported to have left the area in a pick-up truck prior to police arrival at the scene.  Police encountered the suspect vehicle a short time later and attempted to stop it, however, the occupants fled, failing to stop for police. The suspect vehicle was again located a short time later with the assistance of the public, and two individuals were taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, Riley SALMOND (29), a resident of Fairview and a youth have been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Uttering threats (x4)
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Failing to stop while being pursued by a peace officer

The youth has additionally been charged with:

  • Failing to comply with conditions of a release order (x2)

Both accused have been released from custody following a judicial interim release hearing before a Justice of the Peace. SALMOND is next scheduled to appear in Peace River provincial court in relation to these matters on Feb. 13, 2023, while the youth is scheduled to appear in Peace River youth court on a later date.
