While helping a motorist change a flat tire, megachurch pastor Claude Williams and two other men were struck and killed by a drunk driver.

Williams, 49, was the pastor at the Westbank campus of Celebration Church in Terrytown, LA. He and his friend William Leinard, also 49, had stopped along the Westbank Expressway late Sunday night when they saw a 66-year-old male motorist in distress, reports CBN News.

Upon impact, all three men were thrown from the highway. Lousiana State Police pronounced all three dead at the scene.

It is suspected at this time that the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated when he hit the three men. He has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide.

Williams left behind a wife and three sons, who were visiting family in Knoxville, Tennessee at the time of the accident.

Celebration Church is a megachurch in Louisiana with a congregation of around 10,000 spread across 10 campuses. In an email to the church explaining the incident and Williams' death, Lead Pastor Dennis Watson wrote asking for prayer for the Williams' family.

"As many in our Church family know all too well, life is filled with unexplainable tragedies," said Watson. "Last night such a tragedy occurred when your Celebration Westbank Campus Pastor, Claude Williams, was taken from this life in a traffic accident... Let's pray for them constantly, asking the Lord, the 'God of all comfort' (2 Corinthians 1:3) to help them process through their pain and sorrow in the coming weeks, month and years. We will stand with them and assist them in every week in the coming days."

Watson shared that Williams had been a "faithful, faith-filled, godly, and loving leader" in the church.

"His transition to heaven is a great experience for him, but it is a heartbreaking loss for all of us who knew and loved him and were blessed to call him our friend."

Watson concluded the letter: "We take comfort in the fact that 'the Lord is our refuge and our strength and a very present help in time of trouble' (Psalm 46:1), in the fact that this life is so short compared to what we will experience in Heaven, and that we will see Pastor Claude again in Heaven."
