The KIN Club of Grande Prairie in support of PARDS (Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society) is holding a 50/50 raffle for the purchase of a BEMER therapy blanket.

PARDS uses equine therapy to help people feel healthy and strong. They are committed to providing high quality Equine Assisted Therapy to Peace Country residents.

A BEMER blanket helps to increase the micro circulation in the body, helping to keep the back muscles of the horses warm and supple reducing their chance of injury during lessons.

Emily Henschel, PARDS volunteer and Fundraiser Spokesperson says, “Consistently carrying riders that are unbalanced can actually put small strains on the horses' backs, and using the therapy blanket before lessons will help keep those back muscles supple and firing properly with increased circulation.”

Prolonging the career of the therapy horses at PARDS is extremely important, as the horses are the basis of what PARDS does, but the horses have also become like family to both staff and clients.

Henschel says, “Another benefit of the blanket is that it's wireless. So they can basically bring a horse in from outside, get it ready for its lesson, throw the blanket on for 15 minutes to half an hour, and have those back muscles and that blood flow going before the rider gets on for their lesson.”

The cost of a therapy blanket is around $6000.

The fundraiser goes until January 28th, and the draw takes place on January 29, 2022.

Tickets can be purchased through rafflebox.ca. You can also find the link, and get more information on the KIN Club of Grande Prairie, and PARDS Facebook pages.
