The Northwestern Alberta Foundation has distributed over $365,000 to support wildfire recovery in 9 communities.

The Northwestern Alberta Emergency Recovery Fund was established in 2022 in partnership with Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) and Northwestern Alberta Foundation (NAF).

The May 2023 wildfires prompted GPREP and NAF to enact the Northwestern Alberta Emergency Recovery Fund. Together they promoted the need for support across social media and through community connections. Thanks to the overwhelming support from our region, and all over the world, $365,000 was raised.

After review of the grant applications, 4 municipalities and 5 Indigenous communities will receive financial assistance. NAF was proud to be able to channel funds to support NWT during their wildfire through our connection to the Yellowknife Community Foundation.

The funding was disbursed to the following communities:

• Assumption Region Community Policing Society

• Big Lakes County

• East Prairie Settlement Association

• Little Red River Cree Nation

• Municipal District of Greenview No.16

• Town of Fox Creek

• Town of High Level

• Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation

• Sucker Creek First Nation
