At approximately 9 PM Thursday night, the Grande Prairie Fire Department was called to a home in Royal Oaks. On arrival, crews found a large amount of fire coming from a basement window on the rear side of the home. While the first arriving crew knocked the fire down, the rest of the home was searched by other fire crews. The single occupant home at the time of the fire, escaped with no injury.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Grande Prairie Fire Prevention Branch.

The Grande Prairie Fire Department wants to remind those using laptops or tablets to always ensure they are placed on a non-combustible surface while charging.
