On Saturday, November 27, Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS) received its new modular classrooms. The new modular classrooms are replacing those lost in a fire that broke out earlier this year.

In the early morning of April 11, 2021, the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service responded to a fire at the school. The damage was contained to the Grade 1 and playschool modular classrooms; no one was hurt.

The Whispering Ridge community came together and supported the WRCS students and staff after the devastating event; opening their hearts and their doors.

Abby Stilwell, Assistant Principal at WRCS says, “The Grande Prairie Alliance Church opened their arms to our students and staff, making this incredibly challenging situation one that has been filled with love, kindness, and generosity. Their facility has allowed us to utilize beautiful learning spaces right here in our own community, which has meant the world to us and our families. Our appreciation for the wonderful staff at the church runs incredibly deep and we will be forever grateful.”

PWPSD would like to send its most sincere thank you to the Grande Prairie Alliance Church, the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service, and the rest of the community for showing great support during the last several months.

Now that the modular classrooms have arrived, the electrical, plumbing and HVAC work will take place, as well as tying in all the units with roofs, flooring, skirting, etc. Students and staff are anticipated to move into their new modular classrooms in January, 2022.
