Local and area residents have improved access to primary care with the recruitment of a family physician in the community.

Dr. Aiman Tataba is now practising at the Valleyview Health Centre and Valleyview Medical Clinic. He joins a team of four physicians in the community.

“It is great news to welcome Dr. Tataba to Valleyview,” says Todd Lowen, MLA for Central Peace-Notley. “Having his expertise in the community will enhance access to primary care for local and area residents. I’d like to welcome him to the community and wish him all the best in his medical career here.”

Dr. Tataba completed his medical training at the University of Tripoli, Libya. He moved to Valleyview in January.

“On behalf of our community, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Tataba and his family,” says Sheldon Sunshine, Treaty 8 Chief of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. “We look forward to seeing your family grow with us in the years to come.”

Dr. Tataba is married with four children. His family enjoys camping, travelling and barbecuing.

Dr. Brian Muir, Zone Medical Director for the North Zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS), says Dr. Tataba is a great addition to the local care team.

“Family physicians are essential pillars of community health, providing comprehensive, continuous and patient-centred care that contributes to the well-being of individuals and the broader community,” says Dr. Muir. “We are grateful to have Dr. Tataba in Valleyview, providing exceptional care to patients.”

As part of an overall physician recruitment strategy, AHS has three physician resource planners in the North Zone who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. These planners work closely with partner organizations, such as the Rural Health Professionals Action Plan, Health Advisory Councils, and local, independent community physician attraction and retention committees.
