New Cycling Route Announced for Eastlink Centre Triathlon

The cycling route for the Eastlink Centre Triathlon Route is changing for the race this year on Sunday, September 9.

Cyclists will now race down 68 Avenue from Knowledge Way to Poplar Drive.

This new route aims to improve the triathlon experience based on feedback from last year’s participants. It was developed in conjunction with the Transportation Services department to improve safety along the roads. The new design also makes it easier for racers to exit the pool and continue onto the cycle portion of the triathlon.

To accommodate this route and ensure safety for both participants and commuters, 68 Avenue from Poplar Drive to Knowledge Way will be completely closed from 6:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. during the day of the triathlon.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in the event either as an athlete, volunteer, sponsor or spectator. Registration is open until Monday, September 3 and there are race options available for athletes of all ages and abilities from beginners to professionals. Around 100 volunteers are also needed for the event in various roles. For businesses and organizations interested in supporting the triathlon, two levels of sponsorship opportunities are available to help make this event possible. Full details are available at eastlinkcentre.ca/triathlon.

Over 200 local, provincial and regional athletes are anticipated to participate in the event, making it the largest triathlon in the Peace Region. It is sanctioned by the Alberta Triathlon Association. Eastlink Centre hopes to expand the event in future years, making it a signature event for beginners, seasoned triathletes
