The County of Grande Prairie has launched a new program to recognize the outstanding contributions of the volunteers and organizations who contribute to the well-being of their neighbours and communities.

It Takes a Volunteer is focused on highlighting the commitment of volunteers who have donated their time, skills, and knowledge to positively impact the County’s residents.

“The It Takes A Volunteer initiative gives residents the opportunity to express their gratitude and appreciation for the people and organizations who are helping to support a high quality of life for everyone in the County,” said Team Lead for Family and Community Support Services, Coree Ladwig.

Starting February 1, individual volunteers, a group of volunteers or an organization can be nominated for outstanding service to their community through volunteerism. All nominees will receive a recognition package from the County and will be highlighted during National Volunteer Week, which takes place from April 16 to 22 this year. In addition, up to three exceptional nominees will also be featured in videos highlighting their contributions.

“We surveyed our volunteers and organizations, and they were clear they don’t do what they do for public recognition.  They let us know that a genuine thank you from their community would be greatly appreciated,” adds Ladwig. “I encourage everyone to consider the people they know who are doing great volunteer work and nominate them to let them know how much they are appreciated.”

Details about the It Takes a Volunteer initiative and the online nomination form is available at www.countygp.ab.ca/volunteers. Nominations are open until March 1.
