Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) is pleased to announce that Harry Balfour School, Peace Wapiti Academy, and Spirit River Regional Academy will start the 2023-2024 school year with new assistant principals.

Mr. Jonathan Groff, who is currently Acting Assistant Principal at Harry Balfour School, has accepted the permanent position for the upcoming school year. Mr. Groff has spent his 16 years of teaching with PWPSD and the last seven at Harry Balfour School. He says he has always seen one of his roles as an educator as helping prepare students for their individual futures, whatever they picture it to be. “I love that, as an assistant principal, I can offer students even more of what they need to be successful right now and in the future. I love that this role allows me to work with and for students on a whole new level.” Mr. Groff joins newly appointed assistant principal Mrs. Maryanne Buck and Mrs. Jen Clevette as Harry Balfour School’s administration team.

Mr. Scott Bowen, current principal of Clairmont Community School, will join Peace Wapiti Academy as its new assistant principal this fall. In 2006, he began his PWPSD journey teaching at Beaverlodge Regional High School where he taught Social Studies for 11 years. In 2017, he moved to Clairmont Community School as assistant principal and three years later became principal. “I want to thank Clairmont Community School and the community for the last six years. It has been a tremendous journey and I will always treasure my time here.” Mr. Bowen is looking forward to the next chapter and says he is excited to be returning to a high school and getting the chance to work with such an outstanding administration team and staff.

Mr. Garth Stone, current teacher and Athletic Director at Spirit River Regional Academy, is excited to take on the assistant principal position. “I’m looking forward to working with our great students, staff, parents, and community members to continue to build SRRA as a place where students can find success.” Mr. Stone, who began his teaching career at Spirit River Regional Academy nine years ago, holds a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Social Studies and Chemistry, and a Master of Education Specializing in Educational Leadership.
