UPDATE:  Grande Prairie RCMP would like to advise the public that Highway 668, near Range Road 61, has now reopened for travel. 

The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation, but preliminary findings suggest that a pickup truck was rear ended by a semi-truck while they were both travelling Eastbound on Highway 668.  As a result of the collision, the diver of the pickup truck, a 51-year-old Grande Prairie resident, was declared deceased at the scene.

Alberta RCMP wish to extend their condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.

At approximately 7:43 a.m. today (Feb 1, 2024), Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 668 near Range Road 61.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a semi-truck travelling Eastbound on Highway 668 near Range Road 61 rear-ended a pick-up truck travelling in the same direction. RCMP are advising motorists travelling in the area to expect delays for an extended period of time as police investigate this incident. RCMP are asking motorists to please consider choosing an alternate route.

Grande Prairie RCMP along with a RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate. The Highway is expected to be closed for multiple hours.
