The federal government is setting up a $350 million community support fund.

Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, says the idea is to help out charities from coast to coast.

"A portion of these funds will go directly to smaller, independent front line organizations. And the rest will flow through national organizations like the United Way, Community Foundations Canada and the Red Cross, that can get funds to local organizations and vulnerable people quickly."

Trudeau, says the cash will go to both small, local charities and large national charities.

"This is money for things like training volunteers, increasing at-home deliveries for seniors or driving people with disabilities to appointments. With this fund we're giving more resources to charities and non-profits so they can adapt to the new realities and difficulties brought on by this pandemic."

Some figures put losses to charities across Canada between $4.2 and $6.3 billion.

Charities have seen a drop in donations since the pandemic hit, and have no real way to fundraise with restrictions on gatherings.
