There's a moment of silence planned for workers at the Cargill plant north of High River Wednesday, May 6.

It's to honour the memory of the lone employee to die from COVID-19.

Sixty-seven-year-old Hiep Bui spent 23-years at the slaughterhouse picking beef bones out of hamburger meat. She became ill on her shift on a Friday, was hospitalized the next day and died on the Sunday.

When the plant reopened Monday (May 4) after a two-week shutdown Bui's husband told reporters he hadn't received condolences from Cargill. The company subsequently reached out, made plans for today's moment of silence and lowered its flag to half-mast to honour her memory.

949 cases of COVID-19 have been linked to the outbreak at the plant.
