Stanley W. Green, executive director of Mennonite Mission Network (MMN), has announced his retirement.

After 19 years in the position, Green will step back from his role as executive director at the end of July 2020.

Green assumed the position in 2000 after spending seven years as president of the Mennonite Board of Missions, which served as a predecessor agency for what is now known as MMN.

The board of directors for the organization announced Green's decision to retire during a meeting one year and one month prior to the date. They have already begun their search for an appropriate successor.

Now 64, Green served as a leader in both times of surety and not. He especially served the agency while they transitioned in their intention for networking and partnership. Green's leadership also spread beyond the continent, assisting in strengthening their vision to eventually initiate a global mission gathering which took place in Guatemala.

Even in his youth, Green was an advocate for others. Born in South Africa, he became part of a student movement that was instrumental in the end of apartheid.

In his life, the executive director has also held positions as a conference minister, a pastor, and a mission executive, in areas of South Africa, Jamaica, and the United States. He has two children and is a member of Waterford Mennonite Church along with his wife
