In a recent podcast interview, well-known actor Matthew McConaughey shares openly about his Christian faith.

The podcast is called The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan was the host of the hit show Fear Factor for many years and has since gone on to talk about many topics on this podcast.

He recently had McConaughey on and the two talked about God, the Bible, and faith, which is now on YouTube.

When Rogan asks McConaughey if he is 'religious', without hesitation he says yes.

"You know what the Latin root of 'religion' is? Religare. 'Ligare' means to bind together and 're' means again. So yes, I am religious."

McConaughey goes on to say how he believes that religion and science go together, saying "that science is the practical pursuit of God."

He's been in many films in basically every genre, including the movies We Are Marshall, Angels in the Outfield, and Interstellar.

Rogan asks McConaughey about his belief in the Bible and whether the book is true and holds merit, or if it is simply a guidebook. To that end, the actor is honest with his answer.

"I don't know what to do in my daily life with the burning bush," he says, referring to a story of Moses in the Old Testament. "I do know what to do with 'love your neighbour like yourself' and I do know what to do with some Proverbs that I can take into daily practice."

When it comes to his daily life, McConaughy speaks openly about certain parts of the Bible that he doesn't quite understand, including Jesus' miracles that He performed.

"There's philosophies, Proverbs, and teachings that are very valid and helpful that we could all be reminded of," he says about certain writings that he practices in his every day life.

McConaughey is one of the bigger names in Hollywood, and to that end, Rogan asks him if presenting his faith has been difficult. Rogan mentions how the industry is quite secular.

"It's not a place where Christian fundamental values are espoused openly," says Rogan.

McConaughey won an Oscar for Best Actor in his role in the movie Dallas Buyers Club. In the speech McConaughey mentions his faith, saying, "First off, I want to thank God, because that's who I look up to."

In the Rogan interview, McConaughey says that during that speech, he noticed Christian friends in the audience, that went to clap at that moment, but when they looked around at others' reactions, they put their hands back down.

Otherwise, he hasn't noticed people ostracising him for his faith in God while being an actor in Hollywood.

"I haven't measured or noticed where it has harmed or gotten in my way of what I wanted to achieve."

McConaughey is married to Camila Alves and together they have three children.
