Over $35,000 was awarded to local residents and community groups this fall through Pursuit of Excellence and Arts Development funding.

Earlier this month, $17,986 was awarded to 10 individuals and sporting clubs through the latest round of Pursuit of Excellence funding. This fund is a legacy of the 1995 Canada Winter Games, and is designed to provide assistance to athletes, coaches and sport organizations to achieve excellence. Recipients of the latest round of funding include the Grande Prairie Skating Club, Drew Rogers, Elizabeth Gustafson, Ian Stoby, Kieran Goldhawk, Luis Maria Martinez, Makena Pruden, Michael Dube, Sydney Kinderwater and Zachary Malmsten.

An additional $17,500 was awarded throughout this fall through Arts Development Festival, Individual Project and Major Project Funding and Scholarships. Each of these awards is designed to support and encourage the development of local artists and groups involved in the arts in our community. Funding recipients include the Festival of Carols, Grande Prairie Children’s Festival, Sara E. Smith, Carrie Robins, Cameron White, Grande Prairie Regional College Choir and Sarah Card.

“We are proud to support our sport, arts, and culture participants in the community through both Pursuit of Excellence and Arts Developing funding,” said Katie Biberdorf, Community Recreation Development Supervisor. “We look forward to having both individuals and groups represent our city on the provincial, national, and international stage.”
