The first demo is now out from a project that Kevin Max says he's been "dreaming about for over a decade."

The project is a recording of his own version of Larry Norman's groundbreaking album, Only Visiting This Planet. The original 1972 album is considered to be one of the most important records in Christian rock and contemporary music. It took the #2 spot in CCM Magazine's list of 'The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music."

"I was waiting on God to let me know the appropriate time to do it."

Max's project is called Revisiting This Planet. He says that while he's wanted to make the album for years, "The timing has never been right though until recently." That was until he started talking to a friend online. That friend is Mike Norman, who just happens to be Larry Norman's son.

Norman is considered a pioneer of Christian rock."We talked back and forth for a while and I asked him to come to a show I was doing in Portland, Oregon last year," Max tells Cross Rhythms.

"I told Mike that I had wanted to cover the whole album Only Visiting This Planet for years and I was waiting on God to let me know the appropriate time to do it. He encouraged me to get it started and told me that his father would be very pleased and excited for me to do it. To get Larry's son's blessing was all I needed, and here we are off to the races!"

Recording of the project began in August. The first demo from the project 'The Great American Novel,' was released by Max last week.

Max says that Mike Norman has been very involved in the project and they've grown close over the last year.

Mike also introduced Max to Allen Flemming, who is a close friend of Larry Norman's. Flemming is working on a biography of Larry called Rebel Poet.

Max says that Flemming "will add narrative from the book to the musical selections."
