The long-awaited album titled Jesus is King, from rapper Kanye West was scheduled for release on September 27 but has now been pushed back.

Jesus is King, is the rapper's first Gospel album. West is very public with his faith, and belief in Christ. He says he's a "born-again Christian" and announced at the Detroit listening event, that he will now only release faith-based music.

The weekend was filled with album listening events, including in Chicago and New York City. Previews of two films were shared with the audience, one covering his 'Sunday service' rehearsals and another on the creation of a new building in Calabasas for his choir.

Those who attended the listening parties note some key changes from past West events.

Andrew Barber creator of Fake Shore Drive tweeted, "I’m not here to comment on the album not dropping. But I will say that it’s dope that he’s paying for all this stuff out of his own pocket and making all the events free."

"I don't remember there being any vulgar lyrics, which is definitely a first for him. I think the entire album really represents this transition he's gone through from being angry and struggling with his mental health to finding God and becoming a new person," Danielle Bennett told Complex.

The new album release date is unknown but his feature film Jesus is King will be in Imax theatres October 25, 2019.
