A film that is being released on Christmas Day is shining a light with faith on justice, equality, and the necessity of mercy.

Just Mercy is a film starring Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson, and Jamie Foxx. The story is based on the award-winning novel which tells the story of a young lawyer, Brian Stevenson, an outspoken Christian who wants to fight for justice.

The movie has many spiritual themes and references to the Bible because of Stevenson's faith. Jordan plays the Havard Law graduate who fights for those wrongly accused. Foxx says that Jordan who not only starred but co-produced the film made sure that Stevenson’s dedication to his faith was brought to life.

Just Mercy is set in 1987 where the lawyer is brought to Alabama to help defend a difficult case and is supported by Larson who plays a local advocate.

Walter McMillian, played by Foxx is facing a death sentence for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, although there is barely any evidence that proves his guilt. Foxx told the Christian Post that Just Mercy is a necessary film for our world today. He hopes it will shine a light on racial issues and help break down stereotypes and discrimination seen in our world.

"I think that nowadays, with social networks, it's different, or at least we can see these kinds of problems with more visibility than like, I don't know, 20 years ago, when it was impossible to find out these kinds of cases.

"It's the most important film I've ever been attached to," Foxx says.

Brian Stevenson, the lawyer, played by Jordan told CP that he uses Micah 8:8 to fuel his longing to fight for those often forgotten. “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God,” Micah 8:8 says.

Just Mercy will open in select theaters on December 25, 2019, and will be fully released on Jan. 10, 2020.
