Blue Heron Support Services is holding a fundraising drive to help their clients with Developmental Disabilities to attend a special event in Edmonton called “Night to Shine”.

Blue Heron is a non-profit that supports people with disabilities to live as independently as possible. Most of the agency's clients receive AISH, and with their monthly expenses don’t have a lot of extra money to attend special events.

“Night to Shine” is one of those special events specifically for people with disabilities that will be held in Edmonton on February 10, 2023.

Madonna Woolridge, with Blue Heron Support Services says, “It’s put off as sort of a prom night. They have the red carpet out for those individuals, they have limousine services, people there to help with their hair and makeup, they have music, special gifts, and everyone receives a crown to wear. It makes it possible for everybody, regardless of their ability or disability, to feel the same for one night and be a part of something big.”

Unfortunately, the agency only learned about the event late last week and have about 16 individuals here in the Peace Region that would like to attend. Registration is due on February 1 (tomorrow), and they are struggling to cover transportation costs to get their clients to this special event.

If you can help to provide some immediate financial support, you can e-transfer Peggy at peggy.ehlswanson@bhssa.ca. In your notes, please put for transportation costs, LIFE program, Northwest. Blue Heron will also accept personal cheques.
