High Prairie, Alberta - RCMP are asking residents to ensure their vehicle doors are locked and personal belongings secured after a stolen vehicle was recovered in the area.

On September 27, 2018, RCMP were called to a report of an abandoned vehicle near town. When approached by a Peace Officer, the occupants of the vehicle were startled awake and the Peace Officer had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit by the vehicle attempting to depart the scene.

Police were called to assist and a brief pursuit was initiated before being called off for public safety. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen out of Grande Prairie.

Police have charged Allan CLOUTIER, 35, of Grouard, AB, with numerous offences including assault on a peace officer with a weapon, dangerous driving, flight from police, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

With the cold weather upon us, people are more inclined to keep their vehicles running in order to warm their car up. Idling vehicles are a prime target for opportunistic thieves. RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in preventing vehicle thefts by taking a proactive approach in making sure their vehicles are locked up, and their keys and valuables are removed from the vehicle.
