The province is getting ready to move onto stage one of relaunching the economy.

Starting as early as Thursday (May 14), certain businesses and services in Alberta will be able to open their doors, provided they follow certain health guidelines

This includes day camps, daycare or out-of-school care, hair salons, barbershops, museums, art galleries, outdoor recreation, places of worship, restaurants and retail stores.

While the economy is being relaunched, residents are still asked to follow public health orders such as physical distancing, staying home when sick and avoiding mass gatherings of over 15 people. People are also asked to wear masks in situations where physical distancing is difficult.

"It will take all of our efforts to continue to keep our infection rate low," said Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw. "I know we will succeed if we all commit to this goal."

There have been 47 new cases in the last day, bringing the total up to 6,300. Of these, 4,659 people have recovered.

Currently, 73 people are in the hospital because of the virus with 12 in the ICU.

Two more people have died due to COVID-19. Two previous reported deaths have now been confirmed to be unrelated to the virus, so the total death count still sits at 117.
