Local non-profit and community groups can apply to the County of Grande Prairie’s annual roadside cleanup program to receive funding.

“This annual program cleans-up our County roadsides while supporting local organizations,” said Technical Services Manager Jennifer Besinger. “The groups who take part make a positive impact across their communities and learn about the importance of caring for our environment first-hand.”

In 2020, 30 non-profit groups cleaned nearly 260 kilometres of County roadsides, collected 7.53 tonnes of garbage, and raised over $57,000 for their organizations.

This year’s program will run from May 1 to 23, subject to public health guidelines. Participating groups pick litter along County roadways, ditches, and Hamlets in exchange for funding. Groups follow health and safety regulations, including safety vests, gloves, roadside signage, and other relevant public health guidelines.

Applications are open until 4 p.m. Friday, March 26. For details and to apply to the Roadside Clean-up Program, visit countygp.ab.ca/roadsidecleanup.
