Pastor and author Greg Laurie is appealing to people to show compassion to one another and leave politics aside as he announces he's been diagnosed with COVID-19.

In a video posted to his social media accounts on Monday the senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California and various satellite sites, says that overall he's doing well.

Laurie says he first noticed some fatigue as well as aches and pains along with a fever last week. "Then I found out the news I didn't want to find out, is that I actually have the coronavirus."

Laurie shot the video from his home where he is in quarantine, following his doctor's orders, he says.

"I just wish that at a time like this we could not politicize something like this and compassion to people that are struggling with this. It really is a pandemic that has swept our nation and even the world."

While Laurie seems to be healthy overall, he says one of the symptoms he's also faced is boredom. "I want to get out again and do what I'm called to do. So thank you for your interest and concern."

For Laurie, he says he's trusting in God and clings to his confidence in Christ. "You know it's important for us as Christians to be reminded that God's in control of our lives. And I don't know why He allowed me to get it, but I got it, and I know that He will get me through it as He has always been faithful to me in the past. But ultimately I also know my times are in His hands and that when that moment comes for me to leave this world, I'll leave. And I won't leave a moment before it, and I won't leave a moment after. So, with that confidence in Christ and the hope that I have in your prayers for my rapid recovery, I trust that I'll come through this and be seeing you all in person soon."

Several people have reached out to Laurie online. That includes Darryl Strawberry who says he's praying for Laurie, as well as Christian artist Phil Wickham.
