On Friday, January 27, Grande Prairie will be competing against other Alberta communities in the annual Family Literacy Day Read for 15 competition for the honour of becoming the Most Readerly Community in Alberta.

Read for 15 is a literacy project created by the NWT Literacy Council and adopted by libraries in Alberta to promote Family Literacy Day. The goal of the competition is to promote the importance of literacy and to encourage families and community members to read.

It’s easy to participate:

  1. Read anything you want: a book, magazine, an audiobook, a cereal box, your math homework, a work memo, a news article, a recipe, your Facebook… anything!

  2. Visit Grande Prairie Public Library’s Read for 15 webpage to record how many people in your household or business read for 15 minutes: https://bit.ly/3wge91C (this link will go live on January 27)

  3. Challenge your friends and family to participate, too! The more people participating, the more likely Grande Prairie will be named the Most Readerly Community in Alberta.
