In the City of Grande Prairie, 58 new COVID-19 cases were reported, and 19 people recovered. The active total is 474 with 1,955 recoveries.

In the County of Grande Prairie, 24 new cases were added, and 18 people recovered. There’s now 190 active cases and 596 recoveries.

Peace Region totals:

Provincially, Alberta has reported 1,429 new cases today (April 8) from 15,203 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 9.4%. Right now, 12,187 cases are active in the province. With 703 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 142,713.

There’s 340 people in the hospital with the virus, with 83 of these in intensive care. This is seven more hospitalizations than reported yesterday, and four more ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 36 people in the hospital with six of these admitted to intensive care.

Alberta has reported three more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 2,005 since the start of the pandemic.

There’s been 717 more cases of variants of concern found. Of the active cases, 5,457, or 44.8 per cent, are variants. In the North Zone, 612 variant cases are active and 113 have recovered.

There have now been more 779,000 vaccine doses administered.
