In the City of Grande Prairie, 18 new COVID-19 cases were reported today (May 5), and 44 people recovered. The active total is 452 with 2,955 recoveries.  

In the County of Grande Prairie, 13 new cases were added, 16 people recovered and one person has died. There’s now 187 active cases, 1,007 recoveries and five deaths. 

There were three deaths reported in the North Zone. One was a male in his 20s with no known comorbidities, who dies on March 13. The other two deaths were both on May 3 and included comorbidities. These were a female in her 30s and a male in his 40s.

Provincially, Alberta reported 2,271 new cases from 20,494 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 11.4 per cent. Right now, 24,156 cases are active in the province. With 1,735 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 174,666. 

There’s 666 people in the hospital with the virus, with 146 of these in intensive care. This is five fewer hospitalizations than reported yesterday and four fewer ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 88 people in the hospital with 17 of these admitted to intensive care. 

Alberta has reported three more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 2,102 since the start of the pandemic.  

There’s been 903 more cases of variants of concern found. Of the active cases, 14,358 or 59.4 per cent, are variants. In the North Zone, 1,953 variant cases are active and 2,502 have recovered.  

There have now been 1,694,675 vaccine doses administered, with 305,511 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
