ASIRT has cleared the Grande Prairie RCMP from responsibility in the death of man in custody back in 2021.

The investigation revealed the person died from an overdose and not lack of care while being detained. Guards checked on the man every 15 minutes until they found him unresponsive at 8:50am the next morning.

The initial arrest took place on February 7, 2021 when RCMP were called to the family home. He was taken into custody without incident after refusing to be transported to the hospital or an addiction centre.
