Applications are now open for the 2024 Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), offering a groundbreaking approach to financing residential energy upgrades. This initiative empowers property owners to invest in energy efficiency and renewable enhancements through flexible, affordable, and enduring financing options facilitated by their local municipality.

Unlike conventional loans, CEIP financing is tied to the property rather than the owner, with repayment seamlessly integrated into the property's tax bill. This unique feature allows current owners to make upgrades knowing that the financing can be smoothly transferred to future owners upon sale.

“We’re excited to re-introduce this program for its second year to support residents in reducing their energy consumption, benefiting from cost savings, improving property values and to help achieve the community's sustainability goals,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “This program reflects our commitment to fostering a more sustainable and vibrant city for generations to come.”

Types of eligible upgrades homeowners can apply for include:

·       Doors, windows, insulation and air sealing.

·       Heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

·       Lighting.

·       Renewable energy, solar PV and thermal.

·       Water heating.

·       Custom upgrades.

The City of Grande Prairie spearheads the Clean Energy Improvement Program in collaboration with Alberta Municipalities, supported by funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
