In the City of Grande Prairie, six new COVID-19 cases were reported today (May 31), and four people recovered. The active total is 91 with 3,745 recoveries.  

In the County of Grande Prairie, seven new cases were added, and no one recovered. There are now 53 active cases and 1313 recoveries.

Provincially, Alberta reported 263 new cases from 4,411 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 6.9 per cent. Right now, 7,646 cases are active in the province. With 682 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 217,636. 

Alberta had an R value of 0.72 from May 24 to 30. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 0.73, Calgary Zone was 0.71 and the rest of Alberta was 0.72.   

The R value, also known as the reproduction number, describes whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same. It tells us average number of people that someone with COVID-19 will infect. 

There’s 439 people in the hospital with the virus, with 133 of these in intensive care. This is seven fewer hospitalizations than reported yesterday and five fewer ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 48 people in the hospital with 12 of these admitted to intensive care. 

Alberta has reported eight more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 2,227 since the start of the pandemic.  

There have now been 2,781,430 vaccine doses administered, with 391,175 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
