In Alberta today, 1240 new cases were identified from about 18,000 tests, for a positivity rate about 6.8%. 

Right now, 795 people are hospitalized with 151 of these in intensive care. In the North Zone, the number is 30 with seven admitted to ICUs. 

There were 9 more deaths reported, for a total of 860 since the start of the pandemic.  

Alberta now has 19,165 active cases with 71,434 recoveries. Since yesterday, 1,267 recoveries were reported.  

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 0.92 (0.90-0.93) from Dec. 14-20. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 0.89 (0.86-0.91), Calgary Zone was 0.97 (0.97-1.00) and the rest of Alberta was 0.90 (0.85-0.95). The province is updating the R value on Mondays. This number shows whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same (ie. the average number of people that someone infected with COVID-19 will infect). 

In Grande Prairie, nine new cases of COVID-19 were added today, and six people recovered. There are now 125 active cases with 557 recoveries. In the County, one new case was added, and no recoveries were reported. There are now 19 active cases and 190 recoveries.
