In the City of Grande Prairie, 56 new COVID-19 cases were reported today (May 6), and 55 people recovered. The active total is 453 with 3,010 recoveries.  

In the County of Grande Prairie, eight new cases were added and 16 people recovered. There are now 179 active cases and 1,039 recoveries.

Provincially, Alberta reported 2,211 new cases from 19,909 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 11.1 per cent. Right now, 24,497 cases are active in the province. With 1,870 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 176,536. 

There’s 654 people in the hospital with the virus, with 146 of these in intensive care. This is 12 fewer hospitalizations than reported yesterday and the same number of ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 85 people in the hospital with 17 of these admitted to intensive care. 

There were no more COVID-related deaths reported today*, for a total of 2,102 since the start of the pandemic.  

There’s been 536 more cases of variants of concern found. Of the active cases, 13,549 or 55.3 per cent, have been identified as variants. In the North Zone, 1,897 variant cases are active and 2,688 have recovered. Dr. Hinshaw announced today that the province will no longer screen all COVID tests for variants, but a representative number. This will free up some lab capacity.  

There have now been 1,732,582 vaccine doses administered, with 308,027 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
